Article: Garden Competition
What is the Garden Competition?
For those tenants who like competitions, the annual garden competition, run by Berneslai Homes across the Borough, is your chance to try to win a cash prize (only awarded for Berneslai Homes Best North and Best South Catergoris) for your efforts in the garden, or simply as recognition for your efforts in maintaining a pleasant environment for you and other residents to enjoy.
This years competition is sponsored by Cannon Hall Garden Centre.

When is it held?
Entries and nominations are taken throughout the year and the deadline for nominations is in July, with judging taking place in August and the presentation evening takes place in October.
How can I enter?
You can download a copy of the Garden Competition 2012 form which you can complete and return back to us by the deadline 20 July 2012.
Is it for everyone?
Any Barnsley resident is eligiable to enter the garden competition and all expressions of interest are forwarded to the independent judge.
There are different categories within the garden competition, these include:
- General - open to anyone; and
- Over 60's - open to older persons over the age of 60.
There is also an overall prize for the best garden in the Borough within the general and over 60's sections.
We also have a section for children as follows:
- Tallest Sunflower (Under 10's)
- Junior Gardener (Under 16's)
- Giant Pumpkin (Under 16's)
How does it work once I have entered?
You can register yourself or someone you know (please see 'How do I enter section' above). We then pass all entries onto independent judges. They will visit your area, judge all entries. Winners are invited to a presentation to congratulate them and to thank them for their hard work improving their local area.
Who can I contact for general advice?
