Article: Decent Homes
Berneslai Homes on behalf of Barnsley Council concluded its decent homes programme on the 31st December 2010 with all the stock now meeting the Government’s decent homes standard.
Since the programme started in June 2004, the Council have spent £212 million on 13,424 whole house improvements and 4,300 on elemental works.
Works to properties included fitting new kitchens and bathrooms, central heating, electrical rewires, insulation works and new UPVC windows and doors, dependant on which works were required to bring the property up to decency standards . Overseen by Berneslai Homes, works have been carried out by partners Construction Services, Inspace, Lovells, Kier, Mears, Keepmoat and Henry Boot.
Moving forward, to ensure all Council homes are kept to the Tenant Services Authority homes standard a new programme will be launched in April 2011, called the ‘Barnsley Homes Standard’. The works carried out under this programme will be decided by individual condition surveys to each property and designed to ensure the property meets the TSA homes standard. We have written to all tenants involved in the first year of this programme informing them of forthcoming surveys to identify what works are required to their properties. Our partners Construction Services and Kier will be carrying out the works overseen by Berneslai Homes.
If you require repairs to your property these should be reported directly to the Repairs Hotline on 01226 787878 or via online repairs reporting system.
