  • Age Concern - a voluntary organisation working for elderly people, providing information and advice.  
  • The Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of the 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform our work.
  • Asylum Support - news, publications, resources, support and links for those seeking asylum in the UK.

  • Barnsley Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Forum is a non-profit, voluntary organisation supporting LGBT people, their family and friends in the Barnsley area. They aim to work to make Barnsley inclusive and a town that celebrates its diversity, be a source of information and support, and provide a safe environment where people can be themselves and feel comfortable. The Forum is inclusive of heterosexual people.
  • The Big Word provides telephone and face to face interpreting services and translation services for Berneslai Homes' customers. Any customer who does not have English as their first language can be helped by Berneslai Homes staff using these services to help remove any communication barriers.
  • British Deaf Association (BDA)  - the largest Deaf organisation in the UK that is run by Deaf people. They represent the Sign Language community, which is united by shared experiences, history and, most importantly, by British Sign Language (BSL).
  • British Red Cross - This is an organisation actively involved in issues relating to refugees and asylum seekers. They provide practical and emotional support to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Their website highlights a number of services and educational resources for refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Commission for racial equality - information about racial discrimination, ethnic diversity, race relations and UK law.
  • The Community Services is the council's department responsible for addressing crime, anti-social behaviour and improving perceptions of public safety. To achieve this we work in partnership with South Yorkshire Police and Berneslai Homes to deliver a wide range of initiatives covering prevention, enforcement and support.
  • Dementia Voice - are working together to improve the services for People with Dementia.

  • Ethnic Britain Directory  - the aim is to raise awareness of key diversity issues in areas such as housing, education, employment and sport and to promote opportunities whether in recruitment or training to the Ethnic Minority community.
  • The Equality and Human Rights Commissionaims to help Britain develop in a way
    that values the ideals that most of us hold dear – respect, freedom, equality, dignity and fairness. These are also the core principles that underpin ‘human rights’ – the basic rights and freedoms that belong to all of us as human beings. You can find out more in our 'Who we are' leaflet.'

  • Home Office Passports and Immigration Department - the government department responsible for immigration and nationality. They regulate entry to, and settlement in, the UK.
  • Mencap - the UK's leading learning disability charity working with people with a learning disability and their families and carers.

  • Refugee Action - an independent charity that supports refugees and asylum seekers to resettle and build new lives in the UK.

  • Royal National Institute of the Blind - national UK charity providing a good range of information for blind or partially sighted people.
  • Royal National Institute for the Deaf - changing the world for deaf and hard of hearing people. RNID is the largest charity representing the 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK.
  • South Yorkshire Women On Line - a resource for women across the region, providing a level playing field on which women can find information, express their views and get your questions answered.
  • Stonewall  - working for equality and justice for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals.
