Article: Repair inspections

Repair InspectionsWe sometimes have to carry out an inspection at your home before we are able to place an order for repairs.  This is usually because the repair you are requesting is not a straightforward repair or it could be a major repair.  Major repairs include damp and structural problems.

Who is the service for?

All Barnsley Council tenants.

How do I report a repair?

You can report a repair in one of these ways.

  • By phone to our Repairs Hotline on (01226) 787878.
  • By using our online reporting system (but only for non-emergency repairs).
  • By using the freephone facilites at your local Barnsley Connects Office.
  • In writing to your local Barnsley Connects Office.

Opening times

The Repairs Hotline is our contact centre for customers who want to report a repair or have an enquiry about a repair.  The Repairs Hotline is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Your local Barnsley Connects office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

What will happen next?

If the Repairs Hotline decide that an inspection is required, they will tell you when you report the repair.

A Planned Maintenance Officer will visit you at your home to inspect the repair and tell you what action we will take.  Wherever possible they will contact you to arrange a convenient time to call.

How long will it take?

We aim to carry out repair inspections within 25 working days.

Sometimes we can resolve the problem with a phone call, so wherever possible we will try to contact you to discuss the repair and tell you what action we will take.
