Berneslai Homes Apprentices Celebrate Their Success second

Berneslai Homes celebrated their second Annual Apprentice Awards last week at Barnsley Football Club. The awards were sponsored by MC Engineering, DR Electrical and Berneslai Homes.
The winner of the overall 2007 ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award was Daniel Crossley. Year 1 winners were announced as: 1st prize Adam Watkin, 2nd Edward Hartley and 3rd prize Joe Wood. Year 2 winners were: 1st Prize Luke Oliver, 2nd prize James Taylor and 3rd prize Sam Copestake. Year 3/ final year winners were: 1st Prize Paul Lyman, 2nd prize Scott Taylor and 3rd prize Lee Pickering. The most improved apprentice of the year was awarded to Andrew Hickman and mentor of the year to Plumber Phil Downes.
The awards were judged by Construction Services Manager Gary Williams and Union Convener Graham Owen and were presented by Gary and Mark McGee, Housing Management Director. Mark adds, “We would like to thank our apprentices for all their hard work and dedication and we are proud of their achievements. We are also extremely grateful to their mentors for keeping them focused and motivated.”
Berneslai Homes Construction Services Apprenticeship Scheme offers local people a full range of general construction trades. They are extremely pro-active in providing work based mentoring, work experience placements and re-training assistance through local schools, training colleges and new skills agencies across a wide range of craft skills.
The annual recruitment of apprentices starts in March and each apprentice has an assigned mentor, on the job training and study at college for the NVQ Level 2/3.
Gary Williams concluded, “We are committed to the sustainable future of the industry in the Barnsley area and offer training and development opportunities in a wide range of skills to people in the Borough who are interested in building a career in Construction.”
