Barnsleys 100 worse gardens have been identified in a blitz by Berneslai Homes and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
All 10 of Berneslai Homes Impact Teams were asked to identify the 10 worse gardens in their area. Once identified tenants of the 100 gardens were sent a letter asking them to tidy up their gardens.
After one week the results were outstanding with 34 gardens tidied up or showing significant signs of improvement. This increased to 65 after three weeks and 27 out of the 35 gardens, which were not improving were placed with a neighbourhood pride order and work was recharged to them. Legal proceedings have begun against a further 3 residents.
Berneslai Homes Director of Housing Management, Mark McGee adds, We are extremely impressed with these results. People need to have respect for their neighbourhoods and it only takes a few overgrown gardens, a bit of graffiti and litter to slowly lead down the path of crime and anti social behaviour
As messy gardens are an ongoing matter the blitz on Barnsleys next 100 worse gardens will be repeated in the forthcoming months to ensure that the borough is a pleasant and clean environment for people to live.
