Greenacre School benefits from Partnership

THE first of a new range of outdoor facilities at Greenacre School developed by organisations working throughout Barnsley on the Decent Homes programme will be opened by the Mayor of Barnsley on Friday 27th May at 2.15pm.

Greenacre School is the only Special School in Barnsley. It provides an educational placement for up to 170 pupils aged 2-19 years old with severe and complex needs. The pupils come from all areas of the Borough as well as Wakefield, Sheffield and Chesterfield.

Keepmoat plc, the first to commit to the project have completed a new horticultural centre with wheelchair access that includes a number of raised flowerbeds that the pupils at the school will run and support.

Brian Crawshaw, Contracts Director at Keepmoat plc said: The horticultural centre will be enjoyed by all the children at the school and will help them to gain qualifications which they can use when they leave school.

Since the project has started the school has received further commitment to the project from Decent Homes partner Inspace who have agreed to cut back a small wooded area and create a walkway throughout with wheelchair access and also from Berneslai Homes who are to provide workmen to help complete the work.

The remaining partners Lovell and Mears have also announced their intention to commit to the programme and will be meeting with the school to identify areas in which they can contribute.
Heather Beachill deputy head at Greenacre School said: The horticultural centre is only a part of what we want to achieve at the school and we are delighted that some of the other projects we had planned are now going to take place.

Businesses who are interested in assisting with the improvement project should contact Heather Beachill at Greenacre School on 01226 287165.
