Kingstone Residents - Have Your Say
Residents of Kingstone were recently invited to a
public meeting to see if there was support in forming a Tenants and Residents
Association (TARA) in the area. The
meeting was held at the Kingstone United Club and organised by Berneslai Homes
Community Development Team and supported by local councillors.
There are currently 25TARAs across the Borough which are formed by local
volunteers who work together to give a voice to their community on housing and
other community issues. Each TARA organise and encourage community and social
activities such as playgroups, bingo, coffee mornings, trips for the elderly and
discos. TARAs are non
political and each is open to everyone who lives in the area it
covers.
Prior to the meeting over 500 leaflets were
distributed to residents in the area and although the numbers who attended were
low, Joan Gaines Community Development Officer for Berneslai Homes is optimistic
that the numbers will grow. She adds: We currently have 25 TARAs in the Borough and they all started out with a
small group of people coming together to try and improve things in their local
area. They attract more people as time goes on, acting as a voice on issues for
others who may not feel as confident in dealing with officers
directly.
Another meeting will be held in early September for
residents of Kingstone to have their say. If you would like to attend or
if you would like more information on any of the 25 Tenants and Residents
Associations across the Borough then please contact Joan Gaines on Tel: 01226
774379.
