Berneslai Homes final year apprentice bricklayer Lee Duty has won the Senior Trophy for Yorkshire in the Guild of Bricklayers Senior Competition.
Lee competed against seven bricklayers in the region and won the trophy having built a test piece to the highest standard. He will go forward to the national competition later this year facing four other regional winners from across the UK. In 2007 Lee also won the Regional Junior Guild of Bricklayers Award and was entered as a junior into the Senior Skill Build competition where he came fourth. The Guild of Bricklayers was founded in 1932 and promotes and maintains the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork.
Berneslai Homes Chief Executive Helen Correy adds, “We are extremely proud that Lee has won this prestigious award and would like to thank him for his hard work and commitment to Berneslai Homes. We are keeping our fingers crossed and wish him the best of luck at the national awards ceremony later this year.”
Berneslai Homes Construction Services Apprenticeship Scheme offers local young people a full range of construction training, ranging from brick laying to joinery and also three mechanical and engineering disciplines. Each apprentice has an assigned mentor, on the job training and study at college for the NVQ Level 2/3.
