A childrens play area has recently opened in Bank End thanks to a group of commited local residents who have worked hard to make improvements to their area.
Over the last few years consultation with local people has identified that a children’s play area has been a top prority. This has now become a reality and since its completion a couple of weeks ago the play area has been well used. It is hoped that future plans will include the development of Bank End Park with a variety of additional facilities and environmental improvements taking place to enhance the site and make it a focal point for the community and community events.
The play area is the result of a nine month Neighbourhood Management project which is being delivered jointly by BMBC, Voluntary Action Barnsley (VAB) and local residents and had been funded by Berneslai Homes. In addition the project has significant support and commitment from a number of agencies and organisations including Berneslai Homes Regeneration and Housing Management Teams, Safer Neighbourhood Team, BMBC Park Services, Primary Care Trust, Kendray Initiative, Kendray & Worsbrough Community Partnership and the Youth Service.
Speaking at the official opening of the play area Berneslai Homes Board Member Joan Whittaker adds, “I would like to thank the local residents and partners involved for their dedication to helping to make this play area possible. It is great to see the facility available for local children in an ideal area close to the local Primary School and the Sure Start Centre.”
