The regeneration of the Bellbrooke Estate in Darfield is to take an important step forward following the approval of a report by Barnsley Council last week (30th January).
The report was produced following an extensive period of community consultation led by Berneslai Homes. Plans for the estate to carry out a stock reduction programme of 41 council houses, have been agreed. This will provide an opportunity to secure the long-term sustainability of the Bellbrooke estate by increasing and improving the housing offered in Darfield. This will be achieved through new housing provision, estate re-modelling and an improvement in the local environment.
Barnsley MBC Strategic Housing is supporting a bid to the Housing Corporation by Chevin Housing to build 30 new units on the estate. The new homes will be a mixture of houses and bungalows for rent and homes for affordable home ownership to improve the choice of housing for people wanting to live in the area. The outcome of the bid should be known in March 2008.
The transformation of the estate will also include an improvement programme commencing in 2009, to bring the remaining council properties up to the Government’s Decent Homes standard.
Berneslai Homes staff will ensure that the community are fully involved throughout the regeneration of the estate and that the Council, Berneslai Homes and all their partners work together to ensure success.
