Berneslai Homes Construction Services are pleased to announce that their PVCu Factory has been accredited with ISO 14001.
The accreditation is an internationally recognised standard that sets out how an organisation can implement an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). The aim of the standard is to reduce the environmental impact of the business whilst still achieving profitability. The commitment and participation of the whole organisation is an essential element in achieving the standard.
Stephen Davis, Director of Asset Management, Regeneration and Construction adds, ”We are pleased that our Construction Services division will roll out this standard across the whole service in the next two years, commencing with the installation team in June 2009. This creates many benefits including better management of environmental risks and overall cost savings in terms of consumption, waste and recycling.”
The method of achieving ISO 14001 is to identify the aspects of the business that impact on the environment and the environmental laws that apply to that aspect. The next step is to produce an action plan with set objectives to reduce and manage the environmental impact. This plan is continuously reviewed to monitor improvements. The EMS is periodically assessed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to ensure compliance.
ISO 14001 was first published as a standard in 1996 and it specifies the requirements for an organisation's environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects over which an organisation has control and where it can be expected to have an influence.
