All council tenants have a tenancy agreement which sets out their rights and obligations as a council tenant. It covers things such as the rent they pay, repairing their home and how they use their home. Barnsley Council has used the same agreement since 2003 but due to a number of changes in the law and changes in its own procedures, they want to update and change the agreement.
Berneslai Homes, working on behalf of the council, has drawn up a new proposed agreement which they believe will make it easier for them to take quicker and more effective action against those tenants who don't behave and who spoil things for other residents. Last week we wrote to all tenants and asked them for their views about the new tenancy agreement. We will then take on board all of the views before asking Barnsley Council to approve a new tenancy agreement.
Director of Housing Management, Mark McGee says, "Berneslai Homes has an excellent track record of taking firm but fair action against those tenants who choose not to follow the terms of their tenancy agreement. This new agreement will further improve our performance and give us more tools to help us tackle problems quickly and for the benefit of all."
We are encouraging any interested party to take a look at the proposals and give them feedback, click here to download the Proposed New Tenancy Agreement. Copies can also be requested by phoning 01226 772720.
