Barnsley’s 100 worst gardens have been identified in a blitz by Berneslai Homes.
In May 2008 Berneslai Homes Impact Teams were asked to identify the worst gardens in their area. Once identified, residents of the 100 gardens were sent a letter asking them to tidy up their gardens.
The exercise proved to be a great success with 94% of gardens identified being improved within 4 weeks including 21% that have been placed with a neighbourhood pride order and work recharged to them. The remaining 6% had been referred for legal action for resolution and 4 of these were owner occupied.
Berneslai Homes Director of Housing Management, Mark McGee adds, “We continue to be extremely impressed with the results of these exercises, which highlight the important work that our Impact Teams carry out on a regular basis. It is essential that people respect their neighbourhoods and it only takes a few overgrown gardens, a bit of graffiti and litter to slowly lead down the path of crime and anti social behaviour.
As messy gardens are an ongoing matter the blitz on Barnsley’s next 100 worst gardens will be repeated at the beginning of September to ensure that the borough is a pleasant and clean environment for people to live.
