We will shortly be making changes to our tenancy agreement for all new and existing tenants. All tenants will shortly be receiving a copy of the new tenancy agreement and from the 26th January 2009 all tenants must follow the new terms and conditions.
Since the existing tenancy agreement was launched in August 2003 there have been many changes in the law covering council tenancies. Housing Management Director Mark McGee adds,” We want to include these changes in our tenancy agreement so that our customers can clearly and easily understand their rights and obligations. It is important that the tenancy agreement makes it easy for us to take quick and effective action against those few tenants who don’t behave, who don’t pay their rent and who spoil things for everybody else. The changes will certainly help us do this.”
In agreeing these changes we have consulted with our staff and Board, Barnsley Council, Barnsley Federation of Tenants and Residents, and a number of partner organisations such as South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. In February 2008 we wrote to you telling you of their proposals and have taken their feedback into account in the new tenancy agreement.
Berneslai Homes would like to confirm that these changes will not affect the security of the tenancy and existing customers will not need to sign a new tenancy agreement.
You can download a copy of a leaflet detailing the changes to the tenancy agreement or the full tenancy agreement.
