Barnsley Federation of Tenants and Residents, in partnership with Berneslai Homes, last week held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Shaw Lane Rugby Club.
The AGM was attended by over 60 people including members of the 20 Barnsley Tenants and Residents Associations (TARAs), staff from Berneslai Homes and guests from Tenants Federations in Rotherham and Doncaster.
Speakers at the AGM included Inspace who carry out one third of repairs and maintenance works to Council properties in the Borough. Other speakers included Barnsley Federation Advisor Claire Hawley who did a presentation on the South Yorkshire Network of Tenants and Residents. The newly formed group includes representatives from Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Federation and Sheffield Homes who look at issues, information and best practice on a sub regional basis. The group aims to give a stronger voice to local groups at a national level.
Barry McGowan, Chair of Barnsley Federation of Tenants and Residents Association adds, ”I would like to thank Berneslai Homes and Barnsley Council for their support over the last 12 months. We have a brilliant working relationship with them that is second to none. We regularly talk openly and honestly to agree policies, procedures and changes to services that work for the tenants and residents of Barnsley and we are always looking at how we can improve these services.”
Thanks to their close working relationship with the Federation, Berneslai Homes have recently become only the third ALMO (Arms Length Management Organisation) in the UK to receive the coveted accreditation from the Tenant Participation and Advisory Service (TPAS), for delivering an excellent resident involvement service. Gillian McLaren Regional Manager, TPAS adds,” Berneslai Homes relationship with the Federation is an excellent example of partnership working. I have not seen such a great working partnership in the work that I have been doing.”
