Berneslai Homes has made it into the top 100 employers measured by Stonewall in their workplace equality index.
Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index was developed to challenge Britain’s leading organisations to improve their workplaces for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff. Now in its 5th year, the index is seen as a key measure of an organisation’s commitment to diversity generally.
In at 92, Berneslai Homes has improved its ranking by 18 places since last year and entered the top 100 for the first time. Committed to improving workplace culture for all employees, Berneslai Homes is delighted to be recognised for its commitment to equality, in this case for its LGB staff.
Berneslai Homes’ Chief Executive Helen Jaggar says: “I am absolutely delighted that Berneslai Homes is the first ALMO (an Arms Length Management organisation looking after the Council’s housing stock) to become one of the top 100 employers in Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. This is great for us, and for Barnsley, demonstrating the growing recognition that our community is made of very different people, including LGB people, who work, socialise and live in Barnsley and bring their own unique contribution to the borough.
Berneslai Homes wants to attract the best calibre staff regardless of any perceived difference, and we know that people work better when they can be themselves. We will be an employer where talent, effort and commitment is recognised and rewarded, and everyone can be open about who they are without fear of discrimination and prejudice.”
