Barnsley residents invited to Inspace Gala Fun Day on May Day 2009

Inspace logoThis year’s May bank holiday is set to go with a swing in Barnsley as residents are invited to a fun packed Inspace Gala day in Locke Park.  The fun starts at 12pm and with attractions ranging from traditional Maypole dancing to an It’s a Knock Out competition, there is something to suit all ages.

Join in the Inspace funday on 4th May 2009For younger visitors there will be a toddlers’ play area with ball pools and other soft play facilities. Older children can enjoy the mega slide, bouncy castle and bungee trampolining, while adults can challenge themselves on the Rodeo Bull Ride.  There will also be traditional entertainments such as coconut shies, a tin can alley and face painting, as well as an information tent with advice on health and crime prevention for the local community.

Inspace is Willmott Dixon Group’s social housing specialist and is carrying out repairs and maintenance on nearly 8,000 homes in the region for Berneslai Homes. It is organising the event to celebrate its seven year partnership with Berneslai Homes and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

The highpoint of the afternoon will be a charity It’s a Knock Out competition with housing maintenance teams competing against each other and the council. Their challenges include gladiator jousts, sumo wrestling and a giant assault course. Members of the public will be able to try out the course afterwards.

The cost of attractions will be kept to a minimum with rides no more than 50p a time. All money raised will go to local charities supported by the Mayor of Barnsley.

Organiser Leigh Garbutt of Inspace’s Barnsley branch says:, "Whether you’re one or one hundred years old, we’ve got something to appeal to everyone. We’d like to invite all Barnsley residents to an action-packed day that should be affordable as well as fun. Everyone is welcome.”

• The Gala Fun Day at Locke Park takes place on Monday 4th May. Fun starts at 12pm and ends at 4pm.
