Berneslai Homes have launched a pilot scheme for up to a maximum of five Barnsley council tenants. Tenants who are currently under occupying a 3 or 4 bedroom council home and are willing to move into specific bedsit or 1 bedroom homes advertised under the Homeseeker scheme, will be offered an incentive of £2,500 to downsize.
Bob Cartwright, Lettings Manager states: “We realise that many of our homes are currently under occupied. Many tenants have advised us that they would be willing to move into something smaller if assistance could be given with the costs of removals etc. As we have a shortage of family type homes available for people on the housing register, it seemed appropriate to offer a financial incentive to people willing to leave a 3 or 4 bedroom home for something smaller.”
We have started to advertise homes where they are able to offer a financial incentive on the Homeseeker section of our website, in all nine Barnsley Connects Offices and in the weekly Homeseeker advert in the Barnsley Chronicle. For those tenants who are interested please express interest using the Homeseeker procedure.
