The current body responsible for monitoring Gas Safety in the Social Housing Industry and beyond is well known to all and is called CORGI.
From the 1st April 2009 the Health and Safety Executive who are the Governments legislative body have given this role to a company called CAPITA this new body will operate a system called GAS SAFE.
There is due to be a great deal of publicity on this issue both using Newspapers and TV, though the TV coverage may be mainly Sky TV based.
All gas operatives employed by Berneslai Homes will carry cards with the Gas Safe logo however as there may be an operational delay in ensuring all registered members are supplied with such cards the CORGI card will still be in use after the April 1st start date.
Van signage will alter to the new Gas Safe logo, however we have not yet been supplied with full details from HSE or CAPITA. All vehicles used however do carry Berneslai Homes or Inspace Logo’s.
As a tenant of Berneslai Homes you should always check the ID and all persons employed by us carrying out gas related works will carry Corgi or the new Gas Safe card. If they do not produce their card which carries their name and the picture of the card holder, do not let them in.
It is illegal to use a card belonging to someone else, so check the photograph. Berneslai Homes staff also carry ID cards with the name and photo of the card holder.
Should you wish to check someone’s credentials before allowing them into your home phone Customer Services on 01226 772720.
