Pupils from Doncaster Road Primary School were presented on Monday (23rd February) with certificates from Union Street Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) for their hard work bulb planting in December. The areas chosen for the planting project were green spaces in need of cheering and brightening up for the Spring. The project has been supported by Berneslai Homes Community Engagement Officer Gillian Totty, Councillor Birkinshaw, Councillor Bruff and Councillor Stokes.
Head Teacher, Maureen Andrews, said: “The children had a wonderful day and came back to school full of enthusiasm and wanting to speak about their experience. That is why opportunities such as the bulb planting are so fantastic, as they make learning real for the children. The children are very appreciative of the time that the TARA, Berneslai Homes and the residents have spent with them. We enjoy any chance to work in partnership with the community and look forward to Spring when we can see the impact of the planting. So a huge thank you from all at the school for involving our children”.
Ronnie Steele Chair of Union Street TARA said: "A very big thank you to all people involved in the project. This is a perfect way of brightening up our neighbourhood for the Spring. This is just the first of many events that we have planned. As a TARA we always look forward to and welcome new members”.
Union Street TARA has only been in existence for 12 months and has achieved an enormous amount in a short space of time. All TARA members are volunteers and act as a voice for the people living in the area. If you are interested in starting a TARA in your area please phone Gillian Totty on 01226 772733 or email gilliantotty@berneslaihomes.co.uk
