Young Person's Funding Pot 2009

Berneslai Homes announce successful bids for this year’s Young Persons Funding Pot

Young Person's Funding PotBerneslai Homes are pleased to announce the successful bids for this year’s Young Persons Funding Pot.

Now in its second year, the initiative has grown to a distribution of 400 application forms and an uptake of 88 submissions for funding.  These have come from a variety of schools, youth clubs, youth groups, individuals and teams from across the borough.

The Funding Pot gives young people’s groups the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £500. The money awarded can be spent on trips, equipment, activities and community projects.  This year 16 groups have been successful and in total have been granted £7,200.

Berneslai Homes would like to thank all of those individuals and organisations whose generous support has made the scheme possible including Suzy Brain England (Chair of the Board), Cllr Joe Hayward (Board Member), Inspace, Barnsley Federation of Tenants and Residents, Bull TCL, and D.G. Decorators.

Dave Fullen Director of Business and Customer Services at Berneslai Homes said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their enthusiastic response.  We are pleased that the project is growing and becoming more recognised after last year’s pilot, as it leads to widespread engagement with young people across the borough, empowering them through the application process into making decisions on which applications to support.  The grants will benefit the borough by improving engagement with young people, raising their awareness of Berneslai Homes and giving them the opportunity to make things better for themselves and their community”.

This year (as in 2008) a panel of young people from across the borough were selected to assess the applications and award the grants.  This approach further reinforces the ethos that the Funding Pot is a youth led initiative, by young people, for the benefit of young people.

Leon Sidebottom, Community Engagement Officer with Berneslai Homes, who co-ordinated the initiative, added “We would really like to thank the young people who acted as members of the assessment panel. Their contribution and approach to this challenge was fantastic!”
