For the second year running Berneslai Homes has been listed in the index of the top 100 gay friendly workplace. The Stonewall Workplace Equality Index was set up to challenge Britain's leading organisations to improve their workplaces for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff.
Against more entries than last year, Berneslai Homes has moved up from 92nd to 82nd. But the scores aren’t what really matters – they are just a way of showing the work Berneslai Homes has done to support LGB staff, and people in the wider Barnsley community.
Chief Executive Helen Jaggar says “We are delighted to be recognised in Stonewall’s top 100 index for a second year. We have continued to support the LGB community in Barnsley, including helping to stage Barnsley’s first Gay Pride in the Town Centre – a fantastic event which attracted an extra 2000 people into the town. We also work hard to support our own LGB staff, and believe our employees appreciate our commitment to have a fair and inclusive workplace, where everyone’s talent and effort is recognised, and diversity is welcomed.”

Note for editors
Stonewall’s Workplace Equality index is widely respected as a robust and challenging process, requiring organisations to consider how they support their LGB staff and the LGBT community, and encouraging them to make continuous improvements year on year, applying lessons learned to support all staff and customers. Berneslai Homes is ranked as one of the top 3 housing organisations for LGB equality in the country, as measured by the index.
