Why not make use of your local Community Centres
Your local community centre is a hidden resource offering a social gathering place for community based activities.
Activities range from social events to education and vocational training courses.
A typical day can start with a playgroup session, followed by the local history group finding out about times long since gone or a maths class that leads to a GCSE accreditation. Evening events may begin with a bingo session and end with a slimming class where people can meet to congratulate one another on their weight loss and support the ones that have not been so successful.
Why not visit your local centre and see what activities are on offer. If there isn’t something to suit you then why not form your own group. For just a few pounds you can book the centre for a children’s party, a sewing class or just to meet friends over coffee.
The success of the centres depends upon your support. Remember these centres are run by the community for the community thus making them affordable to you.
Pop in next time you are passing. You may even bump into someone you haven’t seen for a while or find yourself tapping away on a computer for the first time.
