Then why not use your local community centre?
Your local community centre is a hidden resource offering a social gathering place for community based activities.
Berneslai Homes manage a number of community centres across the borough which are managed by our Community Centre Assistants. Our centres are in the following areas:
- Hoyland
- Hoyland Common
- Platts Common
- Dodworth and Gilroyd
- Mapplewell
- Town
- Honeywell
- Shafton
- Royston
All our centres have a main hall (all of varying size) for fundraising events, large meetings, social events or community group activities and also have kitchen facilities.
Groups who hire from us offer a whole range of activities from local history talks, craft classes, keep fit activities, to courses aimed at helping people get back to work. Children’s groups are also welcome at our centre’s. We currently have a mother and toddler group and Homestart (who offer support to families with young children) who operate from two of our centre’s. The Citizens Advice Bureau, Tenants and Residents Associations and Ward Councillors also hold surgeries. 
We take bookings for morning, afternoon or evening sessions. Charges are £5 per hour and you can download a copy of the Conditions of Hire Agreement.
* Please note the centre’s are not usually open at the weekend or Bank Holidays but we are willing to negotiate on this.

In addition there are 15 Community Centres across the borough which is managed by volunteers. These centres are run by the community for the community. (Please see list below). The Community Centres offer a wide range of activities from social events such as bingo, karate and slimming classes to education and training courses.
