Berneslai Homes Community Engagement Team consists of seven officers whose role is to ensure that people are more effectively involved in the decision making process of the service provided by Berneslai Homes. They work to reduce social exclusion by trying to involve groups classed as 'hard to reach'. We need more young people to become involved and representatives from ethnic minority groups.
The team work closely with Barnsley Federation of Tenants and Residents Association and are also responsible for ensuring that training, support and information is made available to all tenants.
The team also help Tenants to set up Tenants Associations in areas of the Borough where at present no such groups exist.
Berneslai Homes support the management of community buildings for the benefit of tenants and residents to provide social activities in their locality.
To sum up the role of the Community Engagement Team within Berneslai Homes, they carry out the following:
- Promote tenant participation.
- Provide training to help groups achieve their aims.
- Provide support to tenants and residents setting up a new group.
- Provide support and advice on day to day activities of tenants and residents groups.
- Assist groups to obtain funding in order to carry out their projects.
- Ensure that tenants have access to information and training on Tenant Management Organisations.
- Support the management of community buildings.
