Young and Expectant Mums Group
This is a group that helps to support young teenage or expectant mums and provides them with access or signposting to relevant support structures or skills providers, for example: education, parenting skills or health advice.
The co-ordinator of the project got in touch with Leon Sidebottom, Community Engagement Officer to see if there was any support, information or guidance that Berneslai Homes could offer to the group.
The young women in the group had been asking a lot of questions regarding housing, private landlords and the waiting list for Berneslai Homes properties.
We wanted to provide the group with answers and information so that we could dispel any myths that the group may have about Berneslai Homes, their waiting list and the lettings policy. We wanted to help group become aware of and understand the new Homeseeker lettings policy, current banding situation and status if they are actually on the list and how to apply for properties with the new system.
A session was planned and Leon organised for officers from the lettings team to attend the group so that the correct information and support could be provided to the group. The session was a great success and both attendees and officers got as much out of the session as each other, due to the face to face contact with each other. All attendees were offered support to complete the relevant paper work if they wanted to put themselves on the housing register. Also all queries were noted and would be acted upon by relevant staff or organisations and fed back to the individuals.
Leon adds,"This was a very positive session and displayed good inter-agency working and was effective customer engagement with a ‘hard to reach’ group that are high potential customers. I would like to continue such efforts in the future with similar groups due to the positive feedback that we received from the attendees."
