Emergency Alarm Call Systems

What is an emergency alarm?

An emergency alarm is an individual alarm unit which plugs into your telephone.

The alarm operates through the telephone line in your home.  If you need to call for help in emergency you press the button on a pendant which you can wear either on your wrist or round your neck.

This activates the alarm unit which automatically rings Central Call.  Your name, address and medical details will show immediately on the computer.

Central Call trained staff will talk to you through the unit.  The response team will visit you if necessary or offer advice.  They will call a relative, your doctor, ambulance, police or fire brigade if this is what you tell them.

If you are too far away to hear or unable to speak then Central Call will send help.

Who are Central Call?

Central Call is a service provided by Barnsley Council.  It is a service which operates 24 hours a day – 365 days a year.  The service provides experienced help from trained friendly staff.

Who is an emergency alarm suitable for?

An emergency alarm is specially for the elderly, vulnerable or anyone who feels they might benefit from an individual alarm unit, particularly those who live alone.  It can be used for example: if you are feeling ill, had a fall or feeling anxious.

How would I pay for the service?

A monitoring and rental charge is made, and Central Call would be able to give you details about the charges.

You would need a ‘push in’ telephone socket and a 13 amp power socket nearby.  Maintenance and repairs are included in the weekly charge.

However, telephone calls and quarterly telephone rental charges are not covered.  You would continue to pay your own phone bill.

The contact number for Central Call is 775671.
