Exclusions

 

Section A

The basic cover

Loss of or damage to Contents while

they are in your Home caused by the

following.

 

1. Fire, explosion, lightning or

earthquake.

 

2. Smoke.

 

3. Riot or other civil disorder, or labour

disputes.

 

4. Malicious people or vandals.

 

 

 

5. Storm or flood.

 

6. Water or oil leaks from any fixed

heating or domestic water

equipment, washing machines,

dishwashers or fish tanks.

 

 

7. Theft or attempted theft.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8. Being hit by aircraft or anything

dropped from them, or vehicles,

trains or animals.

 

9. Falling trees or branches, lamp posts

or telegraph poles.

 

10. Falling aerials and their fittings

or masts.

 

11. Subsidence or movement of the site

on which your Home stands, or

landslip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Section B

Breakage of glass and mirrors

Accidental breakage of mirrors, and

ceramic hobs on cookers which are not

built in, and fixed glass in furniture in

your Home.

 

Section C

Damage to electrical equipment

Accidental damage to televisions

(including satellite dishes, decoders and

television aerials fixed to your Home),

home computers, and home

entertainment equipment in your Home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Section D

Household removal

Accidental loss or damage to Contents

while they are being moved by a

professional removal contractor direct

between your old Home to your new

address in the British Isles.

 

 

 

 

 

Section E

Contents temporarily removed

Loss of or damage to Contents

temporarily taken from your Home, but

still in the British Isles, caused by the

following:

l circumstances set out in the basic

cover but not including theft.

Theft of Contents:

l while being carried directly between

a bank or safe deposit and your Home

l from any building other than your

Home.

 

 

 

 

Section F

Loss of rent and temporary

accommodation

Up to 15% of the Contents sum insured

for the rent you lose and for the

reasonable costs of temporary

accommodation (including putting pets in

kennels) if your Home cannot be lived in

because of loss or damage insured by the

basic cover

 

Section G

Theft or Loss of Keys

Up to £250 for installing new locks or

replacing lock mechanisms for outside

doors or windows and alarms for your

Home if keys are stolen.                    

 

Section H

Frozen Foods

Up to £300 for damage to food in a

freezer in your Home caused by a

breakdown or rise or fall in temperature

in the freezer.

 

Section I

Tenant's responsibility

Up to 20% of the Contents sum insured

for damage to your landlord's fixtures

and fittings which you are legally

responsible for as a tenant, caused by the

circumstances set out in the basic cover

(see pages 5 & 6).

Up to £2,000 for damage to fixed items

or home improvements you make as a

tenant, caused by the circumstances set

out in the basic cover (see pages 5 & 6).

We will also pay for accidental damage to

fixed glass in windows and to doors,

fanlights, skylights, splashbacks, fixed

sanitary ware and underground services

to your Home which you are legally

responsible for as a tenant.

 

Section J

Loss of metered water and oil

Up to £750 for loss of metered water or

domestic heating oil after accidental

damage to fixed domestic heating or

water equipment in or on your Home.

 

Section K

Contents in the open

Up to £250 for loss of or damage to

Contents not kept in your Home but

still inside the boundaries of the land,

caused by circumstances set out in the

basic cover.

 

 

 

 

Section L

Wedding gifts cover

Up to £1,500 for loss or damage to

wedding gifts caused by the

circumstances set out in the basic cover

(see pages 5 & 6), for one month before

and one month after you or a member of

your family is married.

Cover applies while the gifts are:

l in your Home

l in the building where the reception

is held

l in the married couples' home

l being carried between any of the

places set out above.

The Contents sum insured is temporarily

increased by 15% to provide this cover.

 

Section M

Students Personal Belongings

Students personal belongings up to

£2,000 for loss or damage caused by the

circumstances set out in the basic cover

(see pages 5&6) whilst a member of your

family is living away from home & while

at college or university.

 

Section N

Replacing Documents

We will pay up to £500 for the cost of

replacing deeds, bonds, share certificates

or similar private documents if they are lost

or damaged by any of the causes listed on

pages 5 & 6 while in Your Home or

lodged with a bank or solicitor.

 

 

Section O

Occupiers' and personal responsibility

We will insure you and your family for

up to £2,500,000 (for any one cause)

against legal responsibility for:

l the accidental death, bodily injury,

illness or disease of any person

l accidental damage to property.

This cover applies if this happens during

the policy period anywhere in the British

Isles or during a temporary visit anywhere

in the world.

Also, if we have accepted your claim we

will pay your legal defence costs and

expenses once we have agreed them

with you.

If you die, we will insure your legal

representative under the terms of this

section for any legal responsibility which

you and your family may have.

We will pay up to £5,000,000 for any

incident involving liability to domestic

employees plus any other reasonable

costs, expenses and solicitor’s fees which

you or any member of your family have

to pay, as long as we agree by letter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Section P

Court awards which have not been

paid

Up to £1,000,000 for a court award to

you or your family which has not been

paid to you within three months from the

date of the award. This cover applies:

l to awards for accidental death, bodily

injury, illness or disease or accidental

damage to property of the type

insured in Section M

l if we agree that you cannot get the

money awarded by the court

The award must be made by a court in

the British Isles and must not be being

appealed against.

 

 

Section Q

Compensation if you or your spouse

or partner dies

We will pay this if you or your spouse or

partner have a fatal injury because of:

l an accident, an assault or a fire

happening in your Home or inside

the boundaries of the land

l an accident in a passenger train, a bus

or a taxicab licensed for and available

to hire, in which you or your spouse

or partner is a paying passenger

l an assault in the street.

We will pay compensation as long as the

death happens within 90 days of the

injury.

 

 

Section R

Visitors personal possessions

Up to £200 for loss of or damage to

visitors possessions caused by the

circumstances set out in the basic cover.

 

 

 

 

 

Section S

This cover does not apply unless the

appropriate additional premium has been

paid and the Schedule states that

Accidental Damage Cover is included.

 

Accidental Damage Extension

Cover

Accidental damage to Contents while

they are in your Home.

 

 

No excess applies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Damage caused over a period of time.

 

 

 

 

Damage caused:

l by people to whom you have given

permission to be in your Home

l while your Home is unoccupied.

 

 

Damage:

l caused while your Home is

unoccupied

l to the equipment or appliance itself.

 

 

Loss of personal money, unless the thief

used force to get into or out of your

Home.

Loss by deception unless this was used to

gain entry into your Home.

Loss or damage:

l caused while your Home, or part of

it is lent, let or sublet, unless force

was used to get into or out of your

Home

l caused whilst your Home is

unoccupied

l aided or caused by you, your

family or any domestic employee or

a tenant or people who are legally

allowed to be in your Home.

 

Loss or damage caused by domestic

pets.

 

 

 

 

 

Damage to the aerial, fitting or mast

itself.

 

Damage caused by:

l the coast or river bank being worn

away

l bad workmanship or the use of faulty

materials

l demolition, or by building work on

your Home

l the movement of solid floors, unless

the foundations of the external walls

of your Home are damaged by the

same cause and at the same time.

 

 

Breakage caused while your Home is

unoccupied.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Damage to:

l items designed to be carried, including

video cameras, camcorders, and

portable computer equipment

l records, films, tapes, cassettes, discs,

cartridges, styli, or computer

software.

Damage caused:

l by wear and tear

l by the failure to correctly recognise

or process any calendar date.

l by computers or anything electrical,

electronic or mechanical not working

properly or breaking down

l by cleaning, repair, restoration or use

against the manufacturers' instructions

l while your Home is unoccupied.

 

 

Loss of or damage to:

l china, glass, earthenware and brittle

items, unless they have been packed

by a professional packer

l Contents in storage.

Loss or damage:

l caused by scratching, denting or

bruising

l insured under another policy.

Loss of personal money.

 

 

Loss of or damage to Contents:

l for sale, or away on exhibition or in a

furniture depository

l in the open, caused by storm, flood

or malicious damage

l temporarily living away from

Home as a student

l by theft, unless force was used to

get into or out of the building.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Damage caused if the gas or electricity

supplier deliberately cuts off the supply to

your Home.

 

 

 

 

Loss or damage caused while your Home

is unoccupied.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Loss or damage caused while your Home

is unoccupied.

 

 

 

 

 

Loss of or damage to trees, shrubs,

plants, garden produce or pedal cycles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Any theft or attempted theft which does

not involve force or violence to get into or

out of the building.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We will not pay for negotiable share

certificates or negotiable bonds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Claims based on the following:

l accidental death, bodily injury, illness

or disease suffered by you or your

family

l damage to property which belongs to

you or your family or to a domestic

employee, or which they are looking

after

l the ownership of your Home and any

other buildings or land. Any profession,

business or employment carried out

by you or your family. The ownership,

use or possession of mechanically

propelled or assisted vehicles of all

types (other than domestic gardening

machines, such as lawn mowers),

caravans, trailers or lifts.

l the ownership or use of aircraft or

watercraft unless they are models or

hand-propelled

l any medical condition which is

directly or indirectly to do with HIV

(Human Immuno-deficiency Virus) or

any HIV-related illness, including

Acquired Immune Deficiency

Syndrome (AIDS) or medical

conditions related to it, however they

may be caused

l the ownership or possession of an

animal which any section of the

Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (or any

change to the Act) applies to

l an award made by a court outside

the British Isles

l any agreement or contract, unless you

would have been legally responsible

without the agreement or contract.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

l accidents or events happening

outside the British Isles

l more than £5,000 for you, or your

spouse or partner, or you and your

spouse or partner.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Property more specifically insured by another insurance policy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Damage specifically excluded under

Section A

 

Damage caused

l by wear and tear or depreciation

l by rot, fungus, insects, or vermin

l by atmospheric or climatic conditions

or the action of light

l over a period of time

l during any process of dyeing, cleaning,

restoring, maintenance, repair or

dismantling

l by electrical or mechanical breakdown

or derangement

l by misuse

l by pets

l while the Home is unoccupied

l deliberately by you

l during any process of confiscation or

seizure by authorised officials

 

Damage to

l items of porcelain, china, earthenware

or stone or items made of similar brittle

materials whilst being used or handled.

Any one claim is limited to £500 per

item.

l clothing

l contact and corneal lenses

l food or drink

 

Items that have gone missing or that

cannot be found

 

A £50 Excess applies
