Welcome to Berneslai Homes
Berneslai Homes is an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) responsible for managing homes on behalf of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. We manage 19,500 properties and provide all the landlord services to the council tenants in Barnsley. Responsibilities include:
- Rent Collection;
- Arrears Recovery;
- Repairs and Maintenance;
- Dealing with Empty Properties; and
- All tenancy matters.
In 2009 we were awarded a three stars excellent rating with excellent prospects for improvement by the Audit Commission following an inspection.
Berneslai Homes are an independent company and are committed to working in partnership with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and the communities in which we work to deliver high quality housing services to local people. To improve the service we provide to our customers we also work closely with Barnsley Federation of Tenants and Residents to agree policies, procedures and changes to services. Since launching in December 2002 we have received several awards and accolades in recognition for the high levels of service we provide to our customers. We employ 550 staff and our Senior Management Team comprise of six members.
Berneslai Homes is a company limited by guarantee with a Board of Directors. The Board is made up of:
- a Chair;
- three council representatives;
- three tenant members; and
- three independent voluntary members.

Berneslai Homes also has three sub-committees that report to the Board. These are the Customer Services Committee, Human Resources Committee and Audit Committee.
