- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children requires effective co-ordination in every local area. For this reason, the Children Act 2004 requires each Local Authority to establish a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB)
- The LSCB is the key statutory mechansim for agreeing how the relevant organisations in each local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in that locality, and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do.
- The work of LSCB's is part of the wider context of children's trust arrangements that aim to improve the overall wellbeing ( i.e the five Every Child Matters outcomes ) of all children in the local area.
- Whilst the work of LSCB's contributes to the wider goals of improving the wellbeing of all children, it has a particular focus on aspects of the "staying safe" outcome.
Staying Safe involves keeping children:
- Safe from maltreatment, neglect, violence and sexual exploitation.
- Safe from accidental injury and death.
- Safe from bullying and discrimination.
- Safe from crime and anti-social behaviour in and out of school.
- Have security, stability and are cared for.
