Article: Come to Barnsleys Gay Pride Festival

Come to Barnsleys Gay Pride Festival 2010Barnsley’s second Gay Pride festival will launch the All Barnsley Diversity Festival on 5th September 2010. Last year’s first Pride event was a huge success, with over 2000 extra people swelling the usual Sunday visitors to the town centre.  The event will be a day-long celebration with entertainment for the whole family.

Last year’s Pride raised money for charity “Help for Heroes” and this year’s Pride is supporting local charity, Barnsley Hospice. The Barnsley LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) forum is working in partnership with the Hospice to promote the event and raise money for a good cause.LGBT Logo

The event promises to be a day-long celebration with entertainment for the whole family including a central stage hosting a multitude of artists, with a specific focus on showcasing local singers and bands, a wide range of arts, crafts, pride memorabilia and information stalls,  plus plenty of food & drink to cater for all tastes.

To reduce mounting costs and make Barnsley Gay Pride BIGGER & BETTER than last year, the committee has moved the Pride location from the town centre to The Metrodome Arena and Gardens (see our website/Facebook for directions). The day will run from 10am until 7pm with all the usual Gay Pride Stalls, Tuby's Fun Fair, The South Yorkshire Police Band, demonstrations from South Yorkshire Fire Service, fun and games for the kids with Barnsley Youth Service, information stalls, and a Barnsley Football Club shoot out.

The launch will start on the main stage at 12pm with the Honourable dept Mayor John Parkinson, Berneslai Homes Chief Executive Helen Jagger and Inspector Mark Spooner from South Yorkshire Police. The day will continue with fun top acts booked and confirmed and free parking.
