Article: Equality Analysis
What is Equality Analysis?
This is a process where we consider all our policies and the work we do, to decide what effect they have on our customers and staff. In particular, we look at whether they affect people differently because of their age, sex, disability, ethnic background, faith or sexuality. If they affect people differently in an adverse way, we take steps to change our policies and the way we do things, and we put these in an ‘action plan’.
Can I find out more?
We have published some summary reports, about what we found and what we did about it, and you can follow the link on this page to those summaries. You can also ask us if you want to look any of our Equality Impact Assessments, although these documents can look quite technical. The summary reports are a good way to find out what we learned quickly and easily. To request a particular Equality Analysis, please contact the Equality and Diversity Manager by calling 01226 772755 or by e-mailing customerservices@berneslaihomes.co.uk
Why does Berneslai Homes do this?
We do this because we want to make sure:
- all our customers get fair and equal access to our services;
- people get fair and equal access to jobs with us, and
- employees are treated fairly at work.
There are laws and legal duties which we must abide by, called the Equality Act 2010, and the Public Sector Equality Duty. These tell us that we should check whether our services affect someone adversely because of their different, and take steps to stop it happening.
