garage accountBerneslai Homes manage a small number of garages and garage plots (a site where you would erect your own garage) for rent throughout the Borough. We keep  waiting lists for individual garage sites or garage plots. Some garage sites/ plots have long waiting lists and some have few people waiting.

Can I apply for a garage or garage plot?

Anyone can apply to join the waiting list to rent a garage or garage plot.

How do I get an a garage or a plot on which to build my own garage?

You can apply to rent a garage or garage plot from Berneslai Homes by completing a Garage site or plot application form. Applications are also available from your local Barnsley Connects Office.  

If there is a waiting list we will let the next available garage or garage plot in order of date of application. However, priority is given to existing Barnsley Council tenants when there is a waiting list.

If you are wanting to erect a garage on a garage plot you may also need to obtain planning approval. This can depend on the size and type of garage being built and the location of the garage site

How do I end my tenancy of a garage or garage plot?

You have to give us one weeks notice or longer in writing to terminate a garage or garage plot tenancy.

In the case of garage plots you may be required to remove the garage and return the plot in its original condition on termination of the tenancy.

How can Berneslai Homes/ Barnsley Council end my tenancy of a garage or garage plot?

The Berneslai Homes/ the Council can end your tenancy by giving you one weeks notice, in writing.

The Berneslai Homes/ the Council can re-enter the site if the named tenant dies.

The Council can re-enter the site after it has served a one week notice for rent arrears, or for a breach of tenancy condition.

How much will renting a garage or garage plot cost?
