Household waste collection
The household waste collection service provides a kerbside collection of household waste and recycling from domestic properties.
99% of households in Barnsley receive a segregated weekly collection with garden waste, cardboard, glass, cans and paper collected one week for recycling and the grey bin containing the rest of the household waste, mainly for landfill, is collected the following week. We have recently introduced a plastic bottle recycling and these can be placed into your brown bin.
All properties should have a wheeled bin or refuse sacks for household waste and variety of bins are available for recycling. Flats and houses of multiple occupancy are usually supplied with communal waste and recycling containers.
Collection takes place on a four-day-week from Tuesday to Friday (some new properties and flats are collected on a Saturday) and you will have received stickers with details of collection dates for your property. The stickers include information regarding collections over Bank Holidays, Christmas and New Year. In addition, we have introduced a new service that enables residents to view their collection details online, by using the 'When will my bins be emptied' webpage.
