Article: Second Blitz on Barnsley's 100 worse gardens

Barnsley’s 100 worst gardens have again been identified in a blitz by Berneslai Homes.

Our Housing Management Teams have recently completed the second of three ‘100 Worse Garden’ exercises planned for this year.  The exercise proved yet again to be a great success with either a resolution or improvement in 93 gardens after 4 weeks.  Of the outstanding 7 gardens, 2 were identified for ongoing support, and 5 were private/sold properties which are being progressed accordingly to get a satisfactory resolution.  The success of this exercise is thanks to the early intervention and the offer of support and or enforcement.

Director of Housing Management, Mark McGee adds, “We continue to be extremely impressed with the results of these exercises, which highlight the important work that our Housing Management Teams carry out on a regular basis.  It is essential that people respect their neighbourhoods and it only takes a few overgrown gardens, a bit of graffiti and litter to slowly lead down the path of crime and anti social behaviour.”

As messy gardens are an ongoing matter the blitz on Barnsley’s next and final 100 worst gardens for this year will be repeated next month (week commencing 13th September 2010) to ensure that the borough is a pleasant and clean environment for people to live.
