We’re celebrating after our Kickstart apprentice Billie-Jo Brook scooped an award at the Sheffield City Region Apprenticeship awards, held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Doncaster Racecourse on Thursday 23 September.
Billie-Jo was chosen as the winner in the Kickstart category, with judges noting that “her attention to detail, professional can-do attitude and willingness to get involved in all projects makes her a real star.”
In total, four apprentices from the organisation were shortlisted as finalists in great recognition of their valuable contribution and achievements. They were:
Brett Smith and Lianne Rolling, finalists in the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year category.
Callum Clarke and Billie-Jo Brook, finalists in the Kickstart / Apprenticeship category.
Berneslai Homes is committed to providing employment and training opportunities to local people. The housing company, that manages around 18,500 homes on behalf of Barnsley Council, provides a wide range of apprenticeships and placements, and aims for apprentices to make up ten per cent of its workforce by 2030.
The Kickstart programme gives young people the opportunity to experience the workplace and develop new skills on the job, meaning they are better placed to find long term employment after their placement. Berneslai Homes also funds an additional six months on top of the standard Government funding to create year-long placements.
Alison Rusdale, Executive Director of Corporate Services said: “We’re really proud of all our apprentices who contribute so much; it’s rewarding to see them progress during their time with us. We provide them with a range of learning opportunities so that they get as much as possible from the experience and can find work with us, or another employer, at the end of their placement.
“Congratulations to all four finalists for their achievements, and especially Billie-Jo who has demonstrated our ‘can-do’ value in action.”
