This section gives you useful information about Universal Credit.
Universal Credit is a single monthly payment for eligible people in or out of work. Help towards paying any housing costs such as rent, will be included in the monthly Universal Credit payment. This is called the ‘housing element’. You will be responsible for paying your housing element to Berneslai Homes. For more please watch the video below.
In most circumstances you need to make a claim online on the Universal Credit website.
Universal Credit is paid monthly and in arrears. You should receive your first payment within 5-6 weeks of making a claim, and then on the same date every month.
It will be paid monthly into your bank so you will need to open an account if you don’t already have one to receive your Universal Credit payment. If you don’t have a bank account, find out more about how to open an account by watching the video below.
When you receive your Universal Credit, you will be responsible for paying your rent. It is very important that you pay your rent and it is paid on time. Please go to the ‘Ways to Pay Your Rent’ webpage for further information.
