Giving a hand to Waste Collection

Over the last few weeks our Construction Services Operatives have volunteered to help the Council Waste Collection team, who’ve been short staffed due to Covid-19. Here are a few comments from four of our thirteen operatives who’ve lent a helping hand…

“It’s been great to help out at this time, we all need to stick together as one family to overcome Covid-19.  It’s good to collect the waste and keep the streets clean.” Brian Henderson, Bricklayer.

“We’ve been made to feel very welcome from day one at Smithies. I’ve enjoyed this experience and I’m glad that I decided to volunteer to help out.” Jay Shaw, Joiner.

“Since volunteering for waste collection at Smithies, we’ve been made to feel extremely welcome ,everything was clearly explained on our induction as regards our duties ,work times etc . Health and safety was paramount which is a must in the current climate .Everyone is extremely helpful and if we need anything we’ve just to ask . The correct PPE was issued straight away ,which gives me confidence to carry out my duties . I’m not sure how long this will last but i’m happy doing it.” Phil McGrath-Kay, Joiner

“For the last week I’ve been doing some proactive litter picking around the borough mainly the big estates and main roads.  It’s great that the general public also seem to really appreciate us going round cleaning up their streets.”Philip Baughan, Joiner/ Fixer.
