Pay your rent
Find out how to pay your rent or leaseholder service charges, and how to access your rent account online. There's lots of different ways to pay including using Housing Online, by phone or direct debit. You'll get four rent free weeks during the year, whichever way you choose to pay.
The easiest way to pay your rent is by direct debit – it’s flexible, convenient and helps make sure you never miss a payment.
You can pay your rent directly from your bank account weekly, fortnightly, 4 weekly or calendar monthly on any date of the month (excluding the 31st). We work out the amount of rent you’ll pay for the year and divide the annual rent by the number of payments you’ll make.
Payments are updated automatically so there’s no need for you to tell your bank when your rent amount changes. You’ll receive at least five working days’ notice of any changes to your payment amounts and dates.
If you receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit, you’ll need to notify us of any changes to the amount that you receive, and we’ll amend your direct debit.
You can make a payment by phone using our automated service on 01226 775445.
The service is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. You’ll need your rent payment reference number and your debit or credit card to hand.
If your bank account allows standing orders, you'll need to arrange this yourself and it will be your responsibility to notify your bank of any changes to your payment.
Payments should be made to Barnsley Council using the following details:
Barnsley Council Barclays account
Account number: 83651142
Sort code: 20-08-07
You must also provide your bank with your 11-digit rent payment reference number. It’s important to provide the correct details to make sure your payments go to the correct rent account.
Make a payment using Barnsley Council's online portal. You can also pay your rent and check your balance using your Housing Online account.
