Estate walkabouts
We do regular estate inspections with residents from the local area. We’re often joined by councillors and officers from council departments such as Neighbourhood Services and the local Safer Neighbourhood team.
The walkabout looks at all parts of the estate’s condition including gardens, fly-tipping, litter and dog fouling, and general maintenance to homes.
Any issues we notice are recorded and if we're unable to resolve an issue, it’s passed on to the relevant team at Barnsley Council.
Fancy joining a future walkabout?
We’re keen to hear from everyone who lives in our neighbourhoods, so we can work together to support your community. Visit our events page for information on walkabouts in your area.
Take a look at the information below for updates on issues raised at recent walkabouts.

Mapplewell Estate
Meeting date and time: Tuesday 5 May at 10:30am.
What happened?
Generally, the estate was clean and gardens were kept tidy. A few household items like sofas, a fridge freezer and metal items were spotted, which could’ve been left out for scrap collecting. On Spark Lane, the space near the garages needs weeding and cutting back to keep it tidy. On Wellgate and Crossgate, the wooden porches are untidy with flaking paint.
The issues have been raised for neighbourhood officers to monitor and raise any jobs.

Hoyland
Meeting date and time: Friday 8 May at 11am
What happened?
Generally, we saw well-maintained gardens on Manor Way, but there were three homes with overgrown gardens and piles of rubbish. We’ll contact the tenants to offer support with overgrown gardens. A few houses had household items outside with skips in the gardens, which we’ll continue to monitor.
