Women in Construction Week: Building great careers at Berneslai Homes
Berneslai Homes is marking Women in Construction Week by celebrating the women who play a vital role in creating great homes and communities with the people of Barnsley.
Throughout the week, colleagues from across Property Services and support teams are sharing their stories, experiences, and advice to help highlight the wide range of roles available in construction and housing, and to encourage more women to consider a career in the sector.
Women working in roles including gas safety, repairs, planning, compliance, customer support, and management have taken part in photos, short videos, and quotes to showcase what their jobs involve, how their work benefits tenants and communities, and what they enjoy most about working at Berneslai Homes.
The activity forms part of Berneslai Homes’ wider commitment to improving access to employment, training, and development, and to encouraging greater diversity in what has traditionally been a male‑dominated industry.
Livia Williams, Head of Repairs, Maintenance, and Building Safety, said: “By sharing real stories from women already working in construction‑related roles, we’re challenging stereotypes, raising awareness of the range of careers available, and showing that there’s a place for everyone, whatever their background or skillset. We have many inspiring examples of women who work in all different aspects of construction and housing here at Berneslai Homes. Women play a vital role in these areas and we’re proud to be an employer that champions diversity and provides great career progression for everyone.”
Alongside celebrating colleagues’ achievements, the week also recognises the importance of allies, teamwork, and inclusive workplaces in helping women thrive in construction and housing careers.
Berneslai Homes will be sharing content from Women in Construction Week across its internal and external channels, helping to inspire future generations and reinforce its commitment to building strong communities, careers, and futures in Barnsley.
