Working in partnership with Barnsley Council’s Housing Growth Team we have built and acquired over 350 new homes making these available through ‘Homeseeker’ for new tenants. The new build developments are delivered by the Housing Growth team.
There is currently one scheme on site:
- Kenworthy Road, Worsbrough Common – 1 x 3 bedroom detached house and 2 x 2 bedroom semi-detached houses. Handovers are due in Autumn 2020.
Acquisitions and Conversion of former Commercial Properties
In the last five years we have also brought over 250 empty properties back into use. This has been achieved using a “Purchase and Repair” programme purchasing empty properties on the open market, bringing them up to a lettable standard and offering them to people through ‘Homeseeker’ for new tenants.
In total, 70 of these properties had been empty for six months or more. As a result they have attracted government grant from “Homes England”. Others were developed converting redundant Shops and Community Buildings into new residential premises.
In 2019 we completed the purchase conversion and refurbishment of 12 former offices and clinics owned by the National Health Trust in Kingstone. The properties developed were 11 three bedroom 5 person houses and 1 four bedroom house specifically adapted to meet the needs of a family with a disabled household member.
We are pleased to note that based on our successful partnership with the councils’ housing growth team we continue to secure future programmes of new social rented housing and look to develop innovative schemes that make maximum use of redundant buildings in the borough for housing.
You will find more information on the current programme in our news section and on the Barnsley Council website.
