National Hate Crime Awareness Week

Hate Crime Awareness Week 2026

We're proud to support National Hate Crime Awareness Week, helping to raise awareness of hate crime, challenge discrimination and build inclusive communities where everyone feels safe.

Taking place from 10 - 17 October, the campaign encourages conversations about what hate crime is, how to report it and the support available to those affected.

Hate crime is an incident that targets someone based on their social identity, including someone's disability, race or gender identity. Hate crimes can take place anywhere - in person, digitally, or online.

We support Barnsley Council's No Place for Hate campaign and we’re committed to creating inclusive and welcoming neighbourhoods.

During the week, our colleagues showed their support by making a personal pledge, demonstrating their commitment to standing against hate crime, and supporting anyone who experiences it.

Sean Ellam, Head of Housing Management, said: "We want our communities to be places where residents feel safe, respected and supported to challenge any behaviour that promotes hate or discrimination. By supporting National Hate Crime Awareness Week, we're demonstrating our commitment to building safe communities, and reinforcing the message that there's no place for hate in Barnsley."
