Community Impact Day brings support to residents

On Wednesday 19 August, we hosted a Community Impact Day to support residents living on Union Street in Barnsley Town Centre.

We worked with partners to help improve the local environment, provide advice to tenants, get residents’ views about the area, and share ways for residents to get involved in our tenant involvement opportunities.

The event was made possible thanks to meetings with the three local ward councillors, who have been proactive in supporting residents and looking to work in partnership to find solutions.

In the morning, our Central Neighbourhood team and Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live Action team, took part in a community clean-up around Albion House, Britannia House, and Buckley House.

The teams removed litter and fly-tipping on the streets, trimmed overgrown bushes, painted over graffiti, and tidied communal areas to create clean, welcoming spaces for residents.

Our fire safety and ASB officers were on hand to provide support for tenants and discuss any concerns they had about where they live.

This included ways on how to report ASB, fly-tipping, and fire safety advice for residents in the high-rise flats.

In the afternoon, the Central Neighbourhood team were out and about visiting tenants in the high-rise flats to ask for their views on how the local area could be improved.

The Customer Engagement team also joined us to share updates about the Building Safety Group to encourage residents to have their say and get involved. The team spoke with three tenants who wanted to join the group. The group review our planned works, ongoing works, and our neighbourhood management.
