Survey Update

Published: 05/01/2023
Surveying your home

We’ve recently written to some of our tenants to let them know that we’ve appointed Pennington Choices as the contractor to complete Stock Condition and Energy Performance Certification (EPC) Surveys on our homes.

All council owned properties will be surveyed from January 2023 to spring 2024. This helps us to understand more about the properties we manage, providing up-to-date condition information. It will help make sure that we maintain your home and identify repairs, maintenance, or planned investment required.

Pennington Choices will be contacting tenants before their survey takes place so you don’t need to do anything until you hear from them. If you want to find out more then please read our FAQs below.

What are Stock Condition Surveys and EPCs?

Stock Condition Surveys help us understand the age and condition of each building component of both the inside and outside of your home such as your electrics or roof. This information helps us to plan improvements that might be due in the future and makes sure that we are meeting the Barnsley Homes Standard.

EPCs tell us how energy efficient your home is and helps to give it a rating of efficiency. Like the Stock Condition Survey, this helps us understand and plan improvements in the future. Once a survey is complete, the certificate produced is valid for ten years.

What happens on the survey?

  • The surveyor may complete the Stock Condition Survey, the EPC, or sometimes both.
  • This will take around 45 minutes depending on the size of your property.
  • The surveyor will need access to all rooms in your property. Don’t worry you won’t need to move any furniture.
  • The surveys will be mainly a visual inspection of features, fixtures, and fittings, with some photographs taken.

Why are we doing it?

Surveys can help to provide up-to-date information about the condition of your home. This makes sure your home is maintained and helps us identify repairs, maintenance and planned investment required.

What do I need to do?

You don’t need to do anything. Pennington Choices will write to you about next steps. If you need to speak to them about your appointment once they have written to you then please phone them on 0800 883 0334.

Please be assured Pennington Choices surveyors will always carry ID. To keep you safe please make sure you check the surveyors ID before they enter your home.

If you have any further enquiries regarding the survey or the programme, please phone Berneslai Homes on 01226 787878.
